Reading the last few comments below a wee memorymovie started to play inside my head and there was our beloved Anzo dancing around the living room as she - we - played song after guilty, joyful song on that, my first visit to Filbert.

One tune in particular struck me because believe it or not I had NEVER heard it before then but it made it's mark and anytime I hear it now I think of then and of our Lady Dow belting it out at the top of her lungs as Bob mixed cocktails and we rapidly emptied the bar!

"If you like Pina Coladas, and getting caught in the rain.
If you're not into yoga, if you have half-a-brain.
If you like making love at midnight, in the dunes of the cape.
I'm the lady you've looked for, write to me, and escape...

Well I am having mixed feelings (har dee har) about bailing out of the burning ring but I have a hard time committing to something two years down the road. I love your guilty pleasures list Em.
It's funny how the term is defined. I actually have a lot of respect for KD Lang as an artist and person. A gorgeous voice. I saw that Buffy musical episode for the first time recently and I'll admit the music stuck with me long after. Do you have the CD? The SNF song is by Yvonne Elliman who sang backup on Eric Clapton's classic album 461 Ocean Blvd. My own guilty pleasures would be a lot of 1970's crap. Like on the K-tel records. Back to work.
Those who know me well could probably point to many more of my guilty listening pleasures, but here's a list off the top of my head.

- That song off the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack, “If I Can’t Have You” (who is that?).
- All Duran Duran records.
- Any Yaz/Erasure record circa 1980-86 (actually some may be from the late 70s, no?).
- OK, put Depeche Mode in there.
- Wham, Fantastic (remember that song “Bad Boys”?).
- All B-52s records, from “Planet Claire” to, yes, “Loveshack.”
- Andy Gibb, “Shadow Dancing” (and nearly anything else by him).
- More recently, that “Milkshake” song.
- Justin Timberlake, Justified (yep, whole record -- is that what it's called?).
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer musical soundtrack.
- Shania Twain, that “looks like we made it” song. (was an ex-girlfriend’s favorite).
- KD Lang (my adult contemporary listening habit, again, I blame the foxy ex).
Hey I was just thinking... perhaps this Guilty Pleasures discussion would be better suited to the Blog of Shame...
Just a thought...

Guilty Pleasures Info- Shiv you are right, the CD is like a list of those cheesy songs you used to mix on tapes in high school. Mostly they are songs I can't part with out of the memories each song contains within both T and myself. Britney, Christina, NSYNC, and Enrique are my most guilty of the pleasures- a little pop never hurt anyone! "Good", "It's Alright", and "All I Want" were college tunes. Dido, Nelly Fertado, Incubus, and Klymaxx are all "our songs"- T and I were so in love even with the long distance and he used to make me mixed CD's (replacing those tapes of yesteryear) of tons of cheesy love songs once a month- que romantico! "Feel So Good" was big when I lived in Seattle and always got my heart beating fast and my legs wanting to dance uncontrollably- I never knew who sang it either, but did some research watching late night infomercials on cable. Oh, and Bonnie Tyler- I love Footloose (another very embarrassing pleasure to admit). Like I said, there were many (too many to include on one CD)- lots of old school rock like Poison, Bon Jovi, and RATT. Trust me- everyone has their own guilty pleasure and I like the idea of people sharing their own lists- share on!
Word! Leslie (who found MM's blog on a random search and then landed on mine) has linked to our burn blog...
Excitement!
Ok, June’s Guilty Pleasures is perfect for my dissertation writing just now. I’ve been likening the writing process to pulling teeth, and now I have the dentist’s office soundtrack to go with the analogy.

But really, I recognize more of the tunes than I thought I did at first (by name only), and I share some of the guilty pleasures. I remember when “Jesse’s Girl” was popular I always loved the line: wanna tell her that I love her but the point is probly moot. Oh yeah, poor Ricky. My biggest laugh comes from Klymaxx’s “I miss you.” Holy crap -- hadn’t recognized the artist, or even song title, but I TOTALLY remember this one. Good heavens. I’m assuming this is a downloaded song (or do you actually own it in your collection?!). And I’m guessing that the teeny-bopper songs came from Gnat, the alt-rock (is that even a correct characterization?) came from Theo. Is that right? And is that Bonnie Tyler song from the Footloose soundtrack? AND, lastly, I LOVE that “Feel So Good” one – I had no idea who sang it, or its title, but I was OBSESSED with that song when I first joined a local gym during my exam-prep (training) months. It really got me through those obsessive days.

At any rate, kudos for such emotional exhibitionism. I am loving it. I think the guilty pleasures idea would make an excellent sideburn, in fact (though I’m not actually suggesting it). It provides such insight, no? An interesting window into the Gnat/Theo dyad. In my next daydreaming moments I’ll compile my own list of guilty pleasure songs for posting here (indeed, no need to actually burn the CD).. To be continued, then.

25 is more a burning orbit than a ring. I think I'll opt out and stick to sideburns as they arise. It's not really the postage so much as the time and scale factor.
... And then there were 25 ...

Well, I'll stop adding to the confusion & stick to our slot in mid-'06. I only hope compact disk is still the standard format!
Burning Ring II has 26 members? Is that correct? My thought is that is way too many. Too much postage, too much pressure and too long a wait to complete the cycle (over two years at one a month!). How about splitting the ring into two paralell groups of lucky 13 each?

SORRY- Sharing the task of creating a CD was more than I think T and I could do together with spectacular results (you'll notice I'm burning solo next time around). I was thinking the CD should have been posted on the Blog of Shame instead. Besides the computer problems, we had a hard time negotiating our tastes (or lack of). I am more impressed with my own creations (pat on the back for my side burns) and am offering a copy of The Name Game for those who want something enjoyable to listen to...Email me at nsm25@hotmail.com

Gnat and Theo - just received Guilty Pleasures: PURE FUN!! Thanks guys!

Way backed up here ... are we giving up on BROF1? May: MikeGra; June: Gnat/Theo; July: Nicky; August: Crick.

In other news, time to put together the Burning Ring of Fire II. We've had a healthy enrollment so far (around 13), and this doesn't include most of the current Burners. So do let me know if you want to go another round. The skinny:

Interested in joining a DIY CD-of-the-Month Club?

Here's how it works: each person in the Ring is responsible for compiling a mixed-CD to send out to the rest of the group, within their assigned month. Any theme, any songs, as long as you put it together and mail it out to the rest of the group. It's fairly low-responsibility, as long as you get your CD out on time. There are also plenty of opportunities for "side-burns" as well, if you can't get enough of the burn.

We'll be starting the Ring sometime around Nov-Dec 04. Check out Shamus' Website to see playlists of past CDs. All are welcome -- you don't have to know me, or everyone to sign up. Email if interested: mdm at capgas dot org.
