I just finished the art & final mix of my Dec BROF contribution (a compilation of suicide-themed funk & soul) & I was getting ready to package it up & send it out... Then Leslie's DEATH CD arrived today... I'm worried that this is all getting a bit too morose... Should I switch this to a sideburn and try and put out something more chipper? Or can the BROF can handle two morbid CD's in a row?

After a few last minute changes, I'm burning tonight and having cover art for my Nov. burn printed tomorrow morning. It'll go out tomorrow afternoon or Monday morning at the latest, so watch for it next week (probably later for the Canadians) or so.

Wow.

If anyone else wants a copy of my sideburn just email me...
do we need a sideburn with a theme of "don't kill yourself, things will get better?"

Shamus, just got your Sideburn. And Ron, just got your Fallburn. Will let you know when I give them a listen.

Been meaning to add some impressionistic comments about the whole Sideburn collection, things will never be the same. That’s pretty much all I listen to at work these days. Really like the collection, even if I do skip over a song or two every now and then (as I’m sure you do with mine!).

First of all, I think Shiv's has been in the heaviest rotation for me so far. Love the moodiness of it; suits my recent moods, somehow. Great collection of songs.

Leslie: What’s that PJ Harvey song from? I really like it, and am surprised I haven't come across it (she's among my all-time favorites). And Kate and Anna do a version of that Emmylou Harris song, no? Am I just imagining it? (my brain has been overloaded and I'm losing all trivia-info). And out of curiosity, who wrote it? (Anna, you know probably?)

I: Yours is so fun and buoyant -- really make me thing of you when I listen to it, which I love, of course. Some classic I-songs, like the Dinah Washington. But hang on, there is no way that Dusty Springfield is singing that song -- is it really her?! I always thought it was Juice Newton, or somebody like that (Kim Carnes?). And what does “Arlekino” mean, by the way? Translation, please! Funny, too, because I’ve been listening to the CDs in my office, and for some reason “Sugar Buns” is at a much higher volume than the songs preceding it, so when that song comes on it blares down the hallways. Heehee. Plus I love the artwork – did everyone get different images? I love the monkeys.

Red: You CD is fun cause it’s got all these pop songs I haven't heard in awhile. Like that Sunday’s song – totally reminds me of visiting a friend at Sarah Lawrence college and having a strange/borderline bad drug experience! (but it’s still a good memory, somehow.) And is that really Perry Farrell singing on the Jane’s Addiction song? Wow, what a strange voice. When was that recorded? You probably know this by now, but starting right around track 14 the songs are out of order. Just on my copy?

Gnat. Just because you’re my little sister, your CD brings tears to my eyes! All grown up! That’s all I have to say about it, for now. But I do like the “Year of My Life” CD more than the “American Life” CD these days.

More later – gotta go finish writing an exam (this is keeping my mind off the fucked up election news of today). xxoo and keep your heads up, comrades.
